Pikkolo Pinyin started from a simple idea: most Mandarin learning material asks you to choose between memorizing flashcards in isolation, or reading stories you can't yet understand. We wanted something in between — stories built from real conversational Chinese, broken down word by word, so you can see exactly how Hanzi, Pinyin, and English fit together.

Alongside stories, our shadowing practice is built around a simple idea: listening and repeating out loud, immediately. This is one of the fastest ways to build a natural accent.

And when you're ready to actually speak, you can talk to Pikkolo. He listens, answers out loud, and gently says a sentence back the right way when something got in the way of what you meant. He is endlessly patient, never in a hurry, and entirely unbothered by a long pause while you hunt for a word — so you can find your voice, and your courage, well before you sit down opposite a real Chinese speaker.
